What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a survival sandbox style game created and developed by Markus Perrson commonly reffered to as "Notch" in 2009. Markus sold Minecraft amd its parent company Mojang to Microsoft in 2014. There are two versins of Minecraft. One is known as Minecraft "Bedrock" while the more popular one is Minecraft "Java". For this website im reffering to the Java Editio. There is not much differance between the two, only just a few game mechanics and what device they work on. In Minecraft you can decide what to do. There is no set story or path for you to follow. While there are achievements and a goal you can do, none of it is required. You can do almost whatever you please. You can become a farmer, builder, explorer, miner, redstone engineer, capitalist or something else. Minecraft gives you the choice. But, it can feel limited.

Mods

Modding is a common thing to do for many games, and Minecraft is no exception. Minecraft mods can add some much needed tasks and diversity to the game. They can add from as little to just two tiny pixels to as much as almost an entire new game. It is up to each person to decide which ones to choose. There are mods that add more biomes and wood types, entire new dimensions and mobs and gameplay mechanics. Some mods completely change Minecraft and how you play it. I will be talking about some of my favorite mods and what they do. But First, there are things that need to be known before dowloading a mod.

installation

Sadly, installing a mod is not as simple as downloading the mod and just playing it. There are things you need to do before you can install mods. Here i'll tell you a simplified guide of what to do. If you want a more detailed explanation, look it up.

  1. Install a mod loader.

  2. For Minecraft to be able to run mods you need to install a mod laoder. These are things that bridge the gap between Minecraft and mod. They are needed to make everything run smoothly. There are two main options for what to install. One is called "Forge" while the other is called "Fabric". Choose one of these loaders to install and move onto the next step. Keep in mind not all mods are cross compatible. Some mods are coded to only work with Forge while others will only work with Fabric. Make sure you know which one you choose otherwise it will not work.

  3. Search for mods

  4. Once you have chosen a mod loader you can now look for mods or modpacks. There is a handy little website called "Curseforge" which has a compalation of mods for each mod loader. You can also download the mods from that website also.

  5. Put it in mods folder

  6. Now that you have downloaded a mod you need to put it into your mods folder for Minecraft. You do this by going to insallations and opening the folder for the forge or fabric insallation. There you will find a file called "mods" You open that and drag the mod/s into that. Viola, you should be done.
